Let 'The Son' Shine In!

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven. (Matthew 5:16)

The pop and soul band The Fifth Dimension use to sing a song that ended with the entire band singing “Let the sun shine. Let the sun shine in.”

The underlying meaning was a quest for the generation of the 60’s & 70’s to spread peace & love. As I sit in my office, the sun is starting to shine in, and as I look at all the summer events and ministries scheduled at Cambridge, I see an even greater opportunity to let ‘The SON’ shine in.

This Wednesday evening, June 3 at 6 PM our church family will be served by the delightful children of our TeamKid Ministry. Following dinner and our time of community prayer, there will be a special performance of praise by our kids and promotion to celebrate our final regularly scheduled Wednesdays for the summer. I certainly want to encourage you to come out, support our kids and welcome parents and guests to Cambridge.

This coming Sunday, June 7 will be a powerful time of discipleship, worship and celebration. Our men just kicked off a brand new study of Kyle Idleman’s best selling book Not A Fan. I’ve read ahead a few chapters and I got to tell you this is a powerful hard hitting book that will make you seriously consider if you are a follower of Jesus Christ, or just a fan (like much of the world). I want to encourage all our men to make this worthwhile investment of time beginning each Sunday morning at 7:45 AM.

This Sunday we will also celebrate a powerful milestone in the lives of our young adults who are (or have) graduated from high school and college. Following our Graduation Worship Service, there will be a reception, and we want to encourage anyone who has had any role in the lives of our graduates (including those who have prayed for them) to attend and share this celebration of “What’s Next?”

The Sunday after that, June 14 Cambridge Youth and men will set off on a 7-hour drive to Southwest Virginia as they spend the week as the hands, feet and mouth of Jesus Christ – serving as missionaries to one of the most impoverished areas in the state. This 3-church partnership will include the construction of wheel chair ramps and other projects for the disabled, Vacation Bible School and evangelism. Please pray for our youth and adult servant leaders and chaperones that they may stay safe and completely in the will of God.

On Sunday, June 21 all men are encouraged to wear their tackiest Hawaiian shirts as we celebrate Father Day. Heck, if we’re lucky our families may even let us take them out to eat to celebrate ‘our’ day. In all seriousness, I can think of nothing better that a dad exhibiting the primary role of Jesus Christ in his life by encouraging his children to worship as a family on Father’s Day.

In the weeks and months to come we will continue to “Let the Son Shine In” with a host of ministries and outreach events including our Shoe Drive, VBS, CARITAS, Bible studies, Youth Change for a Change Ministry and Youth/Adult Mentor initiative. Sure, you can have a great time this summer at the pool, ball game, park, etc., but I want to also admonish and encourage you to let ‘The Son’ shine in by serving, worshiping, supporting our young people in their faith walk, and spending time in Christian fellowship and discipleship.

In Christ alone,

Pastor Win Davis
